PARSIPPANY, N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game to Wilmington University, 12-2 Friday afternoon at Smith Field. The Cougars (4-9), who committed six errors on the day, remain winless in conference play at 0-3, while the Wildcats improve to 12-11 overall, 3-1 CACC.
Wilmington scored seven runs in the first five innings, then put five runs on the board in the top of the eighth. Drew Anusky went 4-for-6 with a home run and four runs batted in to lead the Wildcats. Freshman Matt Cook (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) had two hits, and RBI and a run scored, while junior Miguel Perdomo (Teaneck, NJ/Bergen Catholic), left, drove in Caldwell's other run.
Sophomore right-hander Juan Mejia (Ocean City, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) gave up six runs, five earned, on five hits in four innings of work to take the loss. Caldwell's six errors led to five unearned runs for the Wildcats. Mike Godwin tossed six innings and allowed one run on five hits for Wilmington.
The Cougars and Wildcats play a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 28 in New Castle, Del. The first game is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. at Wilson Field.
