DOMINICAN USES BIG SECOND HALF TO BEAT CALDWELL IN MEN'S SOCCER

CALDWELL, N.J. - For the second straight game the Caldwell College men's soccer team allowed three unanswered goals in the second half as the Cougars lost to Dominican College, 4-1 in a game between unbeaten Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foes Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. With the loss, Caldwell falls to 3-1 in conference play and 6-5 overall, while the Chargers improve to 7-2 overall, 3-0 CACC.

James Hamilton got things started early for Dominican when he took a pass from Joe Wright and blasted a shot into the goal from 22 yards out in the fifth minute of the game. The Cougars battled back to gain control of the game, culminating in a goal by freshman forward Jonathan Costa (Mississauga, Ontario/Philip Pocock) in the 35th minute. Senior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion) started the play with a pass down the right flank to junior midfielder Justin Miller (Monroe, NJ/Monroe), who crossed the ball into the penalty area to Costa. Costa one-timed the ball into the goal to tie the game at 1-1.

The game remained tied into the second half until Dominican's Dan Kelly headed home a corner kick from Diego Barahona in the 58th minute for a 2-1 lead. Less than three minutes later, Barahona received a pass from Edwin Miranda and fired a shot into the right side of the goal to put the Chargers ahead 3-1. Hamilton completed the scoring with his second goal of the game off a pass from Diego Miranda in the 85th minute.

Caldwell, which out-shot Dominican 14-5 in the first half, held an 18-12 advantage in shots for the game. Dominican goalkeeper Brandon Heembrock made seven saves, including five in the first half, to preserve the victory. Senior goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) recorded two saves for the Cougars, who have lost nine straight games to the Chargers.

Caldwell looks to get back on track with another CACC game on Saturday, Oct. 4 against Goldey-Beacom College. The game is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. in Wilmington, Del.
