MEN'S SOCCER LOSES TO ST. ANSELM IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

MANCHESTER, N.H. - A goal in the 107th minute by Sam Lamptey gave St. Anselm College a 2-1 double-overtime victory over the Caldwell College men's soccer team in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon at Melucci Field. The loss drops the Cougars to 0-1-1 on the season, while the Hawks are now 1-2-1.

St. Anselm's Tim Hubbard opened the scoring with a goal in the 20th minute for a 1-0 lead. Junior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion), left, tied the game with his first goal of the 2007 season off an assist from junior forward Luis Sartorio (Asuncion, Paraguay/St. Benedict's Prep) in the 33rd minute. The game remained tied until 3:48 remained in the second overtime period, when Lamptey scored off a free kick to end the game. The loss marked the second consecutive double-overtime game for Caldwell, following yesterday's scoreless tie with 17th-ranked Bridgeport in Rindge, N.H.

Junior goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) recorded three saves for the Cougars. Scott Johnson made seven saves for the Hawks. Caldwell held an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal despite being out-shot 25-10 for the game.

The Cougars return to action on Thursday, Sept. 6 with a non-conference game at Mercy College, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
