WATERBURY, Conn. - The Caldwell College baseball team lost to Post University, 10-5 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular-season finale for the Cougars Thursday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. The defeat gives the Cougars an overall record of 22-11, including an 11-5 mark in the CACC, while the Eagles improve to 16-20, 6-8 CACC.
The Cougars scored four runs in the top of the first, two on an error and two on a two-run home run by junior Tommy Murphy (Monroe, NY/Washingtonville), left, his first of the season. The Eagles pushed two runs across in the bottom of the first before Caldwell scored another run in the top of the second on an RBI single from freshman Raymond Keelan (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional) for a 5-2 lead. But Post put three runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 5-5, then used Eric Rovinetti's three-run blast to spark a four-run fourth inning for a 9-5 advantage. A run-scoring double by Dan Luisi in the bottom of the sixth closed out the scoring.
Post's Richie Pierro went five innings to earn the victory, while freshman reliever A.J. Bispo (Bloomfield, NJ/St. Joseph) took the loss for the Cougars.
Caldwell concludes the regular season schedule with a non-conference game at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Monday, May 7. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in Sparkill, N.Y.
