CHARGERS TAKE TWO FROM COUGARS IN CACC DOUBLEHEADER

PARSIPPANY, N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team lost a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games to league-leading Dominican College, 10-3 and 4-2 Saturday afternoon at Smith Field. The sweep allowed the Chargers to capture the season series with the Cougars and improve to 34-13 overall, 21-3 CACC, while Caldwell  fell to 18-23, 11-12 CACC.

Dominican's Chad Duesler hit a three-run home run in the second inning of game one and added an RBI single in the fourth to help the Chargers take a 10-0 lead through the top of the fifth. The Cougars answered in the bottom of the fifth with two runs on four hits. Sophomores Ryan Glasco (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset) and Eric Theiss (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) each had RBI singles to cut the deficit to 10-2.  Sophomore Americo Eaderesto (Manorville, NY/Center Moriches) came home on a groundout by freshman Jorge Torres (Coral Springs, FL/Taravella) in the bottom of the sixth to round out the scoring.

Matt Dilgen (6-3) gave up six hits and three runs in six innings to earn the win for Dominican. Senior Travis Muessig (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) lasted just two innings in taking the loss.

The Chargers started fast in the second game as well, scoring runs in the first three innings, including a solo home run by Sean Brown in the second, to take a 3-0 lead. The Cougars got on the board in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Torres that made the score 3-1. Jose Escalera's run-scoring single in the top of the seventh stretched Dominican's lead to 4-1. In the bottom of the seventh, sophomore Tommy Murphy (Monroe, NY/Washingtonville) led off with a double and later scored on a single by senior Landon Viessy (Oakland Gardens, NY/Cardozo) to make it 4-2. Caldwell threatened with runners on first and third but were unable to score as the Chargers completed the sweep.

Murphy (4-4) pitched six innings and allowed four runs, two earned, and four hits while striking out six for the Cougars. He also scored both of Caldwell's runs. Dominican's Nick Schreiber went 3 2/3 innings and gave up five hits and one run to improve to 4-1.

The Cougars will host Bloomfield College in a CACC doubleheader at Smith Field on May 3. The first game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
