BASEBALL FALLS TO BLOOMFIELD IN CACC OPENER

LYNDHURST, N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team lost to Bloomfield College, 6-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener Monday afternoon at Breslin Field. The loss dropped the Cougars to 5-10 on the season, while the Deacons improved to 7-13 overall and 1-1 in the CACC.

The Cougars got on the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning, when three straight singles led to freshman Jorge Torres (Coral Springs, FL/Taravella) scoring the game's first run. Bloomfield answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, then scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-1 lead. Two more runs in the bottom of the seventh allowed the Deacons to go up 6-1. The Cougars took a run back with a pinch-hit RBI single by sophomore Eric Theiss (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) in the eighth, but they would get no closer.

Sophomore Eric Hines (Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) gave up 10 hits and six runs, four earned, to take the loss and fall to 0-3. Senior Landon Viessy (Oakland Gardens, NJ/Cardozo), pictured, had two hits, while Torres scored both of Caldwell's runs.

The Cougars return to action with a non-conference game at Molloy College on Tuesday, Mar. 28, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
