CALDWELL FALLS AT USP IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, 70-52

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team lost a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game to the University of Sciences, 70-52 on Tuesday night. The loss dropped the Cougars to 8-18 overall and 8-15 in the CACC, while the Devils won their 10th straight to improve to 20-6, including a 19-4 conference mark.

Leah Shumoski helped the Devils break open a close game with a 12-2 run that put USP ahead 25-15 with 7:15 remaining in the first half. The Devils built the lead up to 14 before a pair of free throws by freshman guard Camille Mammolite (Scotch Plains, NJ/Mount St. Mary), who was making her first collegiate start, made the score 37-25 at halftime.

USP maintained the upper hand in the second half, as the Devils used a 13-3 spurt to take a 54-30 advantage with 12:08 left in the game. The Cougars wouldn't get closer than 19 points until they scored seven straight points at the end of the game to make the final score 70-52. The Devils shot 51.8 percent from the floor, including 55.6 percent in the second half, and dished out 22 assists while turning the ball over 15 times.

Junior guard Shannon Coyle (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney), pictured, led the Cougars with 10 points, while junior forward Amy Gaudious (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) added nine points and sophomore guard Phylicia Holmes (Roselle, NJ/Roselle) recorded team highs of eight rebounds and three assists. Shumoski led all scorers with 22 points to go with 10 rebounds, with Allison Weiss scoring 17 points and Lori Sedina scoring 14 for USP.

The Cougars, who have clinched the sixth seed in next week's CACC Tournament, wrap up the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 25, with a home game against the University of Philadelphia. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
