HARRIOTT SENDS COUGARS TO SEMIFINALS OF CACC TOURNAMENT

CALDWELL, N.J. - Junior midfielder Nicholas Harriott (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Campion) scored in the 77th minute to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Caldwell College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Holy Family University in the quarterfinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win puts the Cougars (12-5-1) in the semifinals against top-seeded Dominican College on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Tryon Field in Rutherford, N.J. Holy Family ends its season with an overall record of 11-7-1.

The Tigers jumped out in front just five minutes into the game, as Steve Kientzy collected a loose ball and broke in alone on Caldwell sophomore goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny). Kientzy dribbled around the charging Plaugic and scored to give Holy Family a 1-0 lead that the Tigers would hold into the second half. Less than five minutes after halftime, freshman defender Peter Carlsson (Lycke, Sweden) was taken down in Holy Family's penalty area. Senior forward Uke Dauti (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) converted the ensuing penalty kick to knot the game at 1-1.

Possession turned heavily in favor of the Cougars throughout the second half, as Caldwell held a 10-2 advantage in shots after the break. With less than 14 minutes on the clock, a corner kick by junior defender Matt Broderick (West Keansburg, NJ/Raritan) was collected at the back post by sophomore defender Asgeir Ofstad (Trondheim, Norway). Ofstad passed the ball to Harriott, whose shot from 18 yards out beat goalkeeper Patrick Becker to his right and put the Cougars ahead to stay, 2-1. It was Harriott's second goal in as many games.

Plaugic made one save in goal to help the Cougars win their fifth straight game and their eighth victory in their last 10 games. Becker collected four saves for the Tigers.

The Cougars turn their attention to Thursday's game with Dominican, ranked 21st nationally, in a rematch of last year's championship game. The Chargers have eliminated the Cougars in each of the last two CACC tournaments.
