HOLY FAMILY HANDS CALDWELL A 75-49 DEFEAT

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team lost to league-leading Holy Family University, 75-49 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday night at the Campus Center. The defeat ended the Cougars' two-game winning streak, dropping their record to 5-12 overall and 5-9 in the CACC. The Tigers, who haven't lost since the first game of the season, are now 16-1 on the year, including a perfect 14-0 mark in the conference.

The Tigers never trailed, opening with a 12-2 run in the first six minutes of the game. The lead grew to as many as 21 points before a pair of free throws by sophomore forward Melissa Freeman (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) and a basket by sophomore guard Phylicia Holmes (Roselle, NJ/Roselle) made the score 34-17 in favor of Holy Family at the break. The second half was more of the same, as the Cougars managed to score just seven points in the first 13 minutes of the half, allowing the Tigers to build a 60-24 lead. Holy Family cruised to their second win over the Cougars this season and sixth straight over the past three seasons.

All 11 players scored for Caldwell, although no one scored more than eight points. Freshman guard Laura Ciesla (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) came off the bench to make a pair of three-pointers en route to eight points, while Holmes, pictured, grabbed a team-high 10 boards. The Tigers' Megan Bauer recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Chrissy Kosiek added 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Cougars return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 28, when they host CACC-foe Georgian Court University at 1:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
