MANCHESTER, N.H. - Jesse Milling of St. Anselm scored in the third minute of overtime to complete the Hawks' 3-2 comeback victory over Caldwell College in a non-conference match at the Merrimack Tournament Monday afternoon at Melucci Field. The loss dropped the Cougars to 1-1 on the season, while St. Anselm improved to 2-1-2.
The Cougars got on the scoreboard first when junior forward Uke Dauti (West Orange, NJ/West Orange), pictured, was taken down in the Hawks' penalty area in the 20th minute. Junior forward Bard Skjelstad (Bodo, Norway) converted the penalty kick for a 1-0 lead. Freshman midfielder Kevoi Walters (Clarendon, Jamaica/Clarendon) nearly put Caldwell up 2-0 in the 26th minute, when his shot from 12 yards out hit the right post. Then shortly after halftime, Skjelstad stole the ball from a Hawks' defender and sent a pass to Dauti, who beat St. Anselm goalkeeper Scott Johnson to his left.
With the Cougars seemingly in control, the game turned in favor of the Hawks in the 54th minute. Senior midfielder Chris Parshelunis (Brick, NJ/St. Rose) beat his defender and was taken down in the penalty area, earning another penalty kick for Caldwell. This time, Johnson made a diving save to his left on Skjelstad's attempt. Just 54 seconds later, Seth Ebbeling toe-poked a loose ball past Cougar senior netminder Mike Turdo (West Paterson, NJ/Passaic Valley) to cut the lead in half. The Hawks tied the game at 2-2 in the 75th minute, when Sam Lampley headed in a long throw-in from Michael Wilbur, sending the game to overtime and setting up Milling's game-winner.
Turdo made four saves for Caldwell while Johnson collected eight saves for the Hawks.
The Cougars return to action on Thursday, Sept. 8, when they host ninth-ranked Franklin Pierce College at 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
