BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Caldwell College baseball team ended a three-game losing streak with a 13-9 victory over the University of Bridgeport in a non-conference game Monday afternoon at Harbor Yard. The Cougars, who hadn't won since last Monday, improved to 9-13 on the season, while Bridgeport fell to 5-11.
The Cougars struck early, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding another in the second for a 5-0 lead. Five more runs over the next four innings helped the Cougars build a 10-4 lead after their half of the sixth before Bridgeport scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut Caldwell's advantage to 10-8. But the Cougars scored three times over the next two innings to clinch the victory.
Eight Cougars had hits, with nine different players scoring runs for Caldwell. Sophomore Andy Chunn (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) went 2-for-5 at the plate with two runs and a pair of runs batted in. Senior Fadul Bambino (Astoria, NY/Queensborough CC) (pictured) also had two hits and two RBI, including a double that knocked home a run in the third.
Freshman righthander Eric Hines (Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) earned the victory in three innings of work, allowing seven hits and three runs while walking two and striking out one.
