COUGARS TOP NYACK, END TWO-GAME SKID

CALDWELL, N.J. - Four players scored in double-figures as the Caldwell College women's basketball team ended its two-game losing streak with a 67-50 victory over Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday evening at the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars improved to 6-10 overall and 5-6 in the CACC with the win, while the Warriors dropped to 2-14, 2-10 CACC.

The first half was tightly contested, as neither team led by more than four points. After a pair of free throws by Nyack's Sharhonda Johnson tied the game for the ninth time in the half with a minute left, Caldwell ended the half strong with two free throws by freshman forward Dana Leary (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) and a three-pointer from freshman guard Corrie McIntyre (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park Regional). Sophomore guard Jenn Murray (Jackson, NJ/Jackson), pictured, paced the Cougars with seven first-half points.

The game remained close after the break, with Nyack cutting Caldwell's lead to one on two occasions in the first two minutes in the second half. With the score 41-39 with 13:43 left in the game, the Cougars took control. Four straight Cougar free throws gave Caldwell a 45-39 lead, then sophomore guard Shannon Coyle (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) broke a four-minute field goal drought with a three-pointer at the 9:36 mark. Caldwell then scored nine more unanswered points to cap a 16-0 run and effectively put the game away for the Cougars. The Warriors never got any closer than 16 points as Caldwell shot 4-of-7 from three-point range in the second half to help secure the win.

Murray finished with a game-high 14 points to tie her career-best while recording nine rebounds and three steals. Coyle had 13 points, while McIntyre and sophomore guard Amy Ransom (Chattanooga, TN/Notre Dame) each had 10 points. Deb Roberson finished with 11 points to lead the Warriors.

Caldwell returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 29, when the Cougars play at rival Bloomfield College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
