BENSALEM, Pa. -- Sophomore righthander
Haleigh Fisher (Smyrna, N.Y.) pitched a four hit shutout and Caldwell University softball scored runs on a wild pitch and error to gain a split of its CACC series with Holy Family (18-22 overall, 10-6 CACC) at Bensalem High School. With the win, the Cougars (25-15 overall, 15-3 CACC) clinched the CACC regular season title for the first time since 2018. Holy Family won the opener, 9-1.
The Cougars scored in the second when sophomore SS
Maddie Matkosky (Horseheads, N.Y.) singled and advanced to second on an error by the HFU left fielder. After sophomore 3B
Lindsay Oller (So. Plainfield, N.J.) sacrificed her to third, Matkosky raced home on a wild pitch to give CU the 1-0 lead.
Fisher made it stand up, getting some help from her defense in the fourth when, after a one-out triple by Kylee Jones, the Cougars turned a 5-3-2 double play, Oller fielding a grounder, firing to freshman 1B
Emerson Jarrard (Carlsbad, Calif.), who then threw home to sophomore catcher
Emily Kurth (Toms River, N.J.), who applied the tag to end the inning.
The Cougars added an insurance marker in the sixth when sophomore RF
Lexi Weiss (Norristown, Pa.) led off with a single to right, advanced to second on a sacrifice by freshman CF
Melissa Lugo (Gilroy, Calif.) and scored when the HFU shortstop threw Kurth's grounder past the first baseman.
Fisher induced two fly outs with a runner on second in the sixth, then retired the side in order in the seventh to seal the victory.
Caldwell visits Adelphi on Wednesday in the final regular season game of the season.
The Cougars, the No. 1 seed in the CACC Tournament, will host the  No. 8 seed (team TBD) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the first two games of a three game first-round series. The winner advances to the four-team double-elimination bracket on May 7-9 at Wilmington Univ.
