Bayo, Robinson, Young Jr. Lead Baseball Past Lincoln, Sweep of Series

Hopf Ties School Record with 13th Homer; Robinson Steals Four More Bags

LOWER OXFORD TWP., Pa., -- Senior catcher Chris Bayo (Miami) capped a five-run first with a two-run double and freshman right fielder Isaiah Robinson (Franklin Twp., N.J.) had four hits, scored five runs and stole four bases as Caldwell University baseball complete a three-game CACC series sweep with a 15-10 triumph over Lincoln at LU Baseball Complex on Monday.

The Cougars (17-24, 14-18 CACC) got on the board early when senior 2B Stephen Young Jr. (Middlesex, N.J.) doubled in Robinson, followed by RBI by senior LF Jimmy Kurtz (Buena, N.J.) and junior CF Jimmy Turchi (Bridgewater, N.J.).

Young brought in another run on a hit in the second before senior 1B Chris Hopf (Middlesex, N.J.) lifted his 13th home run of the year over the fence, tying the school single-season record set by Adric Saxon in 2007, for a 7-2 Cougars lead in the third.

Young's third RBI hit was followed by a homer by Kurtz for a 9-2 lead.

The Lions would cut a 12-2 deficit to 12-8 in the seventh, but CU answered with three in the eighth, capped by a two-run single by senior 3B Vin Vargas (Maywood, N.J.).

Robinson's four stolen bases gave him 32 on the season, the second highest total in program history.

Caldwell's 17 hits were the most this season, surpassing the 16 attained vs. Chestnut Hill last week.

Senior righty Matt Perez (Washington Township, N.J.) earned the win in relief, allowing a run in 2 1/3 innings of work. Senior righty Ben Foote (Elmer, N.J.) tossed a perfect eighth inning, fanning two.

The Cougars complete the season on Tuesday at Chestnut Hill, beginning at 6 p.m.
