Baseball Bats Break Out For 29 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep Of Georgian Court

Young Scores Five Runs in Twinbill, Hopf Drives in Five

CALDWELL, N.J. -- Caldwell baseball's bats came alive on Wednesday as they scored 29 runs in sweeping a CACC doubleheader from Georgian Court, 11-9 and 18-12, at Kiwanis Oval.

In the opener, Caldwell rallied from a 9-4 deficit entering the bottom of the seventh, scoring four in that frame, the key hit a two-run home run by freshman 3B Justin Levine (Staten Island, N.Y.).

After a single by junior CF Jimmy Turchi (Bridgewater, N.J.) in the eighth tied the game at 9, an RBI walk to freshman RF Izaiah Robinson (Franklin Twp., N.J.) and sacrifice fly by senior 1B Chris Hopf (Middlesex, N.J) put CU up, 11-9. Junior RHP Jonathan Gambone (Westville, N.J.) tossed a perfect ninth to earn his first save.

Levine had two hits and two RBI and senior 2B Stephen Young Jr. (Middlesex, N.J.) scored three runs and drove in three in the contest. Senior RHP Ben Foote (Elmer, N.J.) pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the victory.

In the nightcap, the Cougars (3-14, 2-10 CACC) scored six runs in the first three innings, two on a triple by Robinson in the third, then exploded for 10 in the fourth, highlighted by a three-run home run by Hopf. Caldwell held on for the 18-12 win, making a winner of freshman RHP Shawn Fraumeni (Freehold, N.J.), who opened with four hitless innings before tiring in the fifth.

Hopf and senior SS Christian Rinick (Marlton, N.J.) had two hits, a run and RBI.

The Cougars take on Holy Family in a three-game set this weekend, two in Philadelphia on Saturday and one on Sunday at Kiwanis Oval.
