STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- Sophomore 3B
Lindsay Oller (South Plainfield, N.J.) had three hits in the opener and scored two runs in the nightcap as Caldwell softball dropped a season-opening doubleheader at East Stroudsburg, 8-1 and 6-3, at Creekview Park.
The Cougars scored first in the opener, as Oller singled in junior CF
Kenzie Nazionale (Ontario, Calif.), who had led off the game with a walk and stolen second. The hosts used a seven-run fourth to break open a tie game and go on to the win.
In game two, Caldwell again took an early lead, scoring runs in the first inning on a grounder by freshman 1b
Emerson Jarrard (Carlsbad, Calif.) in the first and steal of home by freshman LF
Melissa Lugo (Gilroy, Calif.) in the third.
The Warriors went ahead with a pair of three-run frames in the third and fifth before CU plated a run on a Nazionale grounder in the seventh.
Sophomore righty
CC Lanzi (Cumberland, R.I.) pitched a perfect sixth inning in relief of starter, junior RH
Katie O'Connor (Charlottesville, Va.).
Caldwell next travels on its Florida trip, where it will first take on Tiffin (Ohio) and host Embry-Riddle on March 7.
