CALDWELL, N.J. -- Junior guard
Jah'Nel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) had a game-high 25 points and added a career-best 13 rebounds and junior forward
Shauntia Alexander (North Plainfield, N.J.) had a near double-double with a season-high 10 points and career-best nine boards, leading Caldwell women's basketball to its fifth straight victory, a solid 76-61 CACC triumph over Georgian Court at the Newman Center on Saturday afternoon.
After a tight first quarter that had six lead changes, the Cougars (15-6, 8-5 CACC) extended a three-point lead to seven on a pair of free throws by Lewis and a jumper by junior guard
Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, N.J.). That began a 12-3 run capped by a layup by Alexander and two more foul shots by Lewis for a 30-18 Caldwell advantage with 3:58 to play in the half.
CU would lead by as many as 14 in the first before settling for a 10-point edge, 37-27 at the half.
The Lions (6-14, 5-7) closed to 39-33 two minutes into the third quarter, but CU would answer with six straight points to go back up by 12, and GCU would get no closer than eight the rest of the way.
Alexander, who played a career-most 29 minutes, was a presence both offensively and defensively, nabbing two steals. Junior guard
Brooke Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) contributed four steals, nine rebounds and two blocks.
Aguilar netted 17 points and despite being limited to 20 minutes by foul trouble, senior guard
Lucy Coogan added 11 points and four rebounds.
Imani Gillette had 19 points and 18 rebounds to pace GCU.
Caldwell next visits Dominican in a key CACC matchup in Orangeburg, N.Y. on Tuesday.
