Seniors Show The Way for Men's Basketball In Wire-to-Wire Win Over Chestnut Hill

Evans (18 points, six assists), Horn (14 points) get Cougars back in the win column

CALDWELL, N.J. -- Senior guard Melvin Evans (Bronx, N.Y.) scored a team-best 18 points and senior forward DeAngelo Horn (Detroit) added 14, leading Caldwell to a 80-68 CACC men's basketball triumph over Chestnut Hill at the George R. Newman Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (6-11, 4-6 CACC) jumped out to a 18-2 lead and after the Griffins pulled to within 18-10, went on a 9-0 run to take their biggest lead of 27-10, with 8:00 to play the first half as Thompson netted eight points, Horn seven and sophomore guard Tristan Rogers (Brooklyn, N.Y.) five.

Then, ahead 32-19 with 4:37 left, the Cougars scored six of the last eight points of the half to take a 38-21 edge into the intermission.

The Cougars increased their advantage to as many as 20 before the Griffins (6-10, 4-5) closed to within seven with 1:39 to play. But five of six free throws by Horn, Evans and junior guard Isaiah Philbert (Bronx, N.Y.) salted away the victory.

Evans, who now has 934 career points, added a game-best six assists and two steals. Junior swingman Jaiden Williams (New York) pitched in 11 points and Rogers contributed a season-high nine in his first start of the year.

Freshman forward Terence Thompson (Rochester, N.Y.) notched five rebounds and blocked three shots for Caldwell.

Alejandro Cybak led all scorers with 19 for CHC.

The Cougars next visit Goldey-Beacom on Saturday, January 24, in Wilmington, Del.
