LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- Senior forward
Emilio Segovia (Mexico City) tallied in the 10th minute and assited on a marker by sophomore midfielder
Haakon Rake (Lommedalen, Norway) in the 18th, supporting the clean sheet posted by the Caldwell University men's soccer defense and junior goalkeeper
Justin Talbot (Moorestown N.J.) as the Cougars (1-1) earned their first win of the season, a 2-0 shutout over Saint Michael's (1-1) at the Georgian Court Tournament at Investors Savings Bank Field on Saturday.
Segovia's tally came on an assist by junior midfielder
Frank Lozano (Cali, Colombia), who took a long feed from sophomore defender
Pieter Hengeveld (Weert, Netherlands) from midfield into the right corner, dribbled along the goal line and lifted a perfect cross to Segovia, who buried a header into the open net for the 1-0 Cougars lead.
Eight minutes later, Rake took a short pass from Segovia near the top of the box and drilled it past the keeper to double CU's lead to 2-0.
Talbot and the CU back line made it stand up, withstanding a 14-5 shots advantage for the Purple Knights. Talbot recorded six saves for his fifth career shutout.
The Cougars step up in their next action on Thursday, visiting Division I Quinnipiac in Hamden, Conn.
