NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Sophomore GK Jose De Oliveira Curado (Santiago do Cacem, Portugal) made three saves in his first action of the season, but a goal by host Southern Connecticut in the 69th minute lifted the Owls (3-2-2) to a 1-0 non-league men's soccer triumph over Caldwell at Jess Dow Field on Tuesday night.
The Cougars kept up the pressure all night, notching 10 shots, including two each by freshman defender Pieter Hengeveld (Weert, Netherlands) and junior forward Hakon Rake (Lommedalen, Norway). But SCSU keeper Diego Flores was up to the challenge, making four saves.
The Cougars (2-5-1) return to CACC play at Georgian Court on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in Lakewood, N.J.
