CALDWELL, N.J. -- Sophomore midfielder Melissa Pires (Elizabeth, N.J.) scored off a rebound in the second minute of the game and sophomore forward Ana Pinzon (Medellín, Colombia) tallied in the 38th minute, propelling Caldwell to a 2-1 CACC women's soccer triumph over Bridgeport at Caldwell Athletic Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Cougars, who remained unbeaten at 4-0-1 overall, 3-0 in CACC play, withstood a UB goal in the 63rd minute and a furious Purple Knights push in the final moments to record the win. Senior GK Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas) made four saves, including three in the second half, when the visitors outshout Caldwell, 7-3, after CU had a decisive 9-1 shot advantage before the intermission.

Pires's marker came immediately off a rebound from a hard, low shot by senior forward Taina Gervais (Port-au-Prince, Haiti), who had taken a long throw-in from sophomore defender Ayla Fraser (Passaic, N.J.). 

Pinzon scored a fine goal following a feed from the wing by senior forward Lexi Peto (Toms River, N.J.), chipped by sophomore forward Bella Noble (Staten Island, N.Y.) to Pinzon, who beat the keeper into the back right corner of the net.

Emely Zelayandia scored the goal for UB (2-2-2, 2-1).

Caldwell next hosts Chestnut Hill on Saturday at 11 a.m.
