Schubert-Brown’s 10 Kills, 14 digs Lead Volleyball in Four-Set Defeat at Felician

Cougars battle but fall in close matchup; Railton, Reddell also record double-digit digs

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Senior OH Wyette Schubert-Brown (Chatsworth, N.J.) had a team-best 10 kills, freshman hitter Meredith Gatz (Millis, Mass.) had six and junior hitter Andrea Enabosi (Piscataway, N.J.) added five as Caldwell volleyball fell in four sets to host Felician in a CACC matchup at Job Gymnasium.

After dropping the first set, 25-19, the Cougars started the second off hot, taking a 9-3 lead on the strength of two service aces by senior DS Torrien Jones (Camp Springs, Md.) and kills by Schubert-Brown, senior MB Alexa McEwan (Beachwood, N.J.) and freshman hitter Kaybri Lowry (Davidson, N.C.).

Leading, 16-11, the Cougars reeled off four of the next five points, keyed by a Schubert-Brown kill, then at 22-15, Enabosi finished off a play after her first attack was hit back over, freshman OH Marley Rudolph (Hampstead, Md.) improvised, flipping the ball to Enabosi who put it away for a 23-17 lead before two Felician errors gave CU the set win.

The third set was another exciting affair, with two consecutive Enabosi kills putting the Cougars up, 21-17. After a side out, the teams traded points on errors before four straight Golden Falcons points put the hosts ahead at 23-22. After a service error tied it at 23, McEwan outjumped the Felician middle blocker to give the Cougars a set point, before three straight Golden Falcons kills gave the hosts a 2-1 set lead.

In the fourth, Felician held a 13-9 lead, but CU rallied to 15-15 on a run capped by kills by Schubert-Brown and Gatz). But FU scored five of five of the next six points for a 20-16 lead, extending to 23-18 before the Cougars made one more push, staving off two match points at 24-19 before the final 25-21 margin.

Schubert-Brown added a team-best 14 digs and senior setter Jordan Mack (Yorba Linda, Calf.) flipped 14 assists.

The Cougars next step out of CACC play when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Newman Center.
