CALDWELL, N.J. -- Sophomore forward
Ana Pinzon (Medellin, Colombia) scored the tiebreaking goal in the 87th minutes, lifting Caldwell Women's Soccer to a 3-2 triumph over Dominican in the CACC opener for both teams at Kiwanis Oval on Wednesday.
The Cougars had taken a 2-0 lead in the first half on a nifty header by senior forward
Rosio Cardenas (Forked River, N.J.) off a perfectly placed corner kick by sophomore midfielder
Melissa Pires (Elizabeth, N.J.) in the 12th minute, moments after the duo nearly connected on the same play, Cardenas's first attempt rising just over the crossbar.Â
Then in the 31st minute, sophomore defender
Ayla Fraser rerouted a saved shot attempt by senior forward
Taina Gervais (Port-Au-Prince, Haiti) off a set piece for the 2-0 Cougars lead.
It stayed that way until a penalty kick by Emily Rath of Dominican (1-2-2, 0-1 CACC) in the 68th minute and a follow up goal by the Lady Chargers' Kendall McGregor two minutes later knotted the score.
Pinzon took a feed in front from Fraser and buried the game-winner.
Senior goalkeeper
Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas) recorded three saves for the Cougars (2-0-1, 1-0).
Caldwell next visits Goldey-Beacom on Saturday at noon in Wilmington, Del., and returns home to face Bridgeport on Wednesday at Caldwell Athletic Field.
