CALDWELL, N.J. -- Senior shortstop
Ashleigh Tavaska (Jackson, N.J.) had a monster day at the plate, going 6-8 with six RBIs and two home runs combined in the doubleheader sweep over Dominican (8-21, 4-6 CACC) at Caldwell Athletic Fields.
Tavaska now has a team-leading eight home runs and 39 RBIs.
Caldwell (18-15, 9-3 CACC) winners of four straight, came back from a five-run deficit to win on a walk-off in the opener.
After Dominican scored five runs between the 3rd and 4th innings, Tavaska got CU back in the game with a home run and a sac fly. Sophomore left fielder
McKenzie Nazionale (Ontario, Calif.) also had a sac fly. The score after the 5th inning was 5-3 Dominican.
Dominican would answer back with a home run in the 6th inning to go up 6-3. The Cougars clawed back to tie it at 6 in the 7th on a RBI single from Tavaska and a two-run single by freshman right fielder

This rally by Caldwell set up senior second baseman
Grace Vondracek (Odessa, N.Y.) for some heroics. Vondracek delivered with the game-winning walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning.
Sophomore pitcher
Katie O'Connor (Charlottesville, VA.) (8-5) earned her 8th win of the season. She pitched 6 1/3 innings, struck out three, and only allowed two hits.
In game 2, Caldwell dominated Dominican. Tavaska went 3-4 with two doubles and a three-run home run.
CU got on the board first in the 1st inning on a RBI single from senior first baseman
Brooke Martin (Oakland, Maine).
After Dominican tied it in the 3rd inning, Martin drove home another run in the bottom half of the 3rd.
In the next inning, the Cougars scored two more runs on a RBI single by sophomore center fielder
Brooke Freschi (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) and a sac fly by Vondracek.
Dominican would come back and tie the score at 4 with three runs in the 5th inning. Caldwell scored five straight runs between the 5th and 6th innings to put the game away and win 9-4.
Tavaska's three-run home run in the 6th was the big blow that sealed the win for CU.
Senior pitcher
Jayden Hill (Geneva, N.Y.) (5-7) was credited with her fifth win this season.
Caldwell will travel to Wilmington, DE and face the Wilmington Wildcats in a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday.
