CALDWELL, N.J. -- The senior trio of second baseman
Grace Vondracek (Odessa, N.Y.), shortstop
Ashleigh Tavaska (Jackson, N.J.), first baseman
Brooke Martin (Oakland, Maine) and sophomore right fielder
Rianna Sparandero (Middletown, N.J.) all went 2-3 in the opening game of the doubleheader sweep against Adelphi (14-19) at Caldwell Athletics Field. Caldwell won 5-3 in the first game and 3-2 in the second.Â

Brooke Freschi (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) and the Tavaska sisters freshman third baseman Emily (Jackson, N.J.) and Ashleigh each drove in an RBI in the opener.
In game one, the Cougars pounced early in the 2nd inning and took a 3-0 lead. Sparandero got CU on the board first with an RBI single. She then stole home to put Caldwell up 2-0.
Emily Tavaska finished off the scoring in the 2nd with an RBI single of her own.
Adelphi came back and scored three runs to tie it in the 3rd and 4th innings. They hit a double and two singles to get themselves back in the game.
Ashleigh Tavaska and Martin mashed two huge extra base-hits in the 5th inning that gave Caldwell a 5-3 advantage. Tavaska hit a RBI double and Martin used her wheels to record the only triple of the game.
Sophomore pitcher
Katie O'Connor (Charlottesville, VA) won her 9th game.
In game two, Caldwell (20-21) capitalized on five errors committed by Adelphi.Â
CU went ahead 2-0 after the first five innings. In the 2nd inning sophomore left fielder
McKenzie Nazionale (Ontario, Calif.) scored the game's first run after two errors by the Adelphi second baseman and center fielder.
Ashleigh Tavaska drove in Caldwell's only RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly in the 5th inning.
Adelphi rallied and evened the score at 2 in the 6th inning after a miscue by the Cougars.
The Cougars walked it off after Vondracek scored the game-winning run in the 7th, after an error by the Adelphi shortstop allowed Nazionale to reach first base and sophomore pinch runner
Amanda Batista (Carteret, N.J.) to advance to second and Martin to reach third.
 O'Connor earned her 10th win of the season.
Caldwell will travel to Bloomfield, N.J. and take on the Bloomfield Bears in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 PM on Wednesday.
