WATERBURY, Conn. -- Senior LF Liam Lombardi (Stony Point, N.Y.) banged out three hits in the doubleheader and freshman lefthander Jared Jacobus (Flemington, N.J.) had his second solid start of the season as Caldwell baseball dropped a CACC doubleheader at Post, 15-4 and 3-1 at Municipal Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

In the opener, the Cougars took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, with a double steal, wild pitch and RBI by junior DH Jimmy Kurtz (Buena, N.J.) and senior 2B Sean Brown (West Orange, N.J.) keying the rally.

But CU would score no more the rest of the way. Liam Lombardi had two hits and two stolen bases in a losing cause.

In the nightcap, Jacobus kept the Cougars (9-7, 3-5 CACC) in it, gritting through five innings, striking out a season-high 11 and permitting just four hits. But the Caldwell bats could manage just four hits, and junior catcher Chris Hopf (Middlesex, N.J.) drove in the only CU run of the game with a fifth-inning grounder.

The teams meet again on Sunday when Post (7-8, 6-0 CACC) visits Kiwanis Oval for a noon doubleheader.
