CALDWELL, N.J. -- Redshirt freshman third baseman
Devon Cass (New City, N.Y.) delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 7th inning to help Caldwell take game two of a doubleheader against Jefferson at Kiwanis Oval. Jefferson won the opener 19-6.Â
Jefferson dominated in the first game. They jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the 1st and did not look back.Â
Senior center fielder
Sean Brown (West Orange, N.J.) and freshman second baseman
Alan Hernandez (Boca Raton, Fla.) each hit their first home runs of the season.
Junior shortstop
Christian Rinick (Marlton, N.J.) hit a 2-run single in the 6th inning that brought home Cass and redshirt sophomore catcher
Akkash Santiago (Toms River, N.J.).
Senior RF
Liam Lombardi (Stony Point, N.Y.) drove home a run on a sacrifice fly in the 1st. Rinick scored.
Cass brought in the Cougars' last run of the game on a ground out to second base. Senior first baseman
Oscar Fajardo (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored.
Game two was very entertaining. Both teams exchanged leads multiple times until Cass walked it off with his RBI single.Â
Caldwell took advantage of two throwing errors by Jefferson and scored both times. In the 1st inning, Lombardi reached first on an error by the pitcher which allowed him to move to second base and Rinick would end up coming around to score the game's first run.
Cass capitalized on the other miscue by the Rams in the 4th when he scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
CU will host Post on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader starting at noon.
