Jimmy Kurtz (Buena, N.J.) plated the go-ahead marker as Caldwell baseball rallied for an 8-5 win in the nightcap to earn a split of its CACC doubleheader with Bridgeport at Kiwanis Oval on Saturday.Â
Those were two of the key plays in a six-run fifth inning that erased a 5-1 deficit, capped by an infield error that plated the run to give CU at 7-5 lead. Junior 1B
Chris Hopf then plated an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out RBI single roped to center field.
Senior righty
Brandon Scalisi (New City, N.Y.) Â gritted out the win with six innings, getting key outs, fanning six and allowing six hits for his third win in as many decisions. Junior righty
Ben Foote (Elmer, N.Y.) earned the save with a scoreless seventh.

Sean Brown (West Orange, N.J.) and soph CF Christian Petino (Flemington, N.J.) all had three hits in the twinbil for Caldwell (7-3, 1-1 CACC).
Bridgeport took the opener, 11-4.
The Cougars and Purple Knights (3-12, 1-1) meet tomorrow in the second leg of the four-game series in Bridgeport, Conn., in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
