CALDWELL, N.J. -- Junior forward
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) scored her 1,000th career point, sophomore guard
Jah'Nel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) had a game-high 17 points and sophomore guard
Brooke Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) grabbed career-highs of 14 rebounds and six steals, as Caldwell fell to Jefferson, 48-45, in a CACC women's basketball contest at the Newman Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars (12-10, 6-5 CACC) trailed, 47-43, with 2:09 left, but a jumper by Corbett with 1:45 to play cut the deficit in half. After Jefferson (16-6, 10-2) made a free throw with 0:10 left, the Cougars had one more shot to win, but a right-corner three fell of the rim as time expired.
Caldwell was limited to 30.2% from the floor and made just three of 21 three point attempts in the contest.
Jefferson had led by as many as nine at 2:33 of the third quarter, 36-27, and took a seven-point lead into the fourth. But the Cougars responded, with a jumper by junior guard
Marissa Sorvillo (Charlotte, N.C.) with 8:33 left pulling Caldwell to within a single point at 36-35.
Sorvillo finished with a career-high 11, nine of those coming in a flurry in the second quarter.
The Cougars visit Bridgeport on Tuesday to start a three-game road trip.
