BRIDGEPORT, N.J. -- Sophomore guard
Jah'Nel Lewis swished a right-angle three pointer with 0.3 seconds remaining, giving Caldwell a thrilling 60-57 CACC women's basketball triumph over Bridgeport at Harvey Hubbell Gym on Tuesday evening.
With the score tied at 55, the Cougars got possession when reigning CACC Defensive Player of the Week
Brooke Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) drew a charge on a drive in the lane. Junior forward
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) put the Cougars up, 57-55, on a layup with 1:48 left. That score held until UB (3-22, 3-10 CACC) scored with 0:07 left to tie it.
After a time out that gave Caldwell (13-10, 7-5) possession in the front court, Corbett flipped a pass across to Lewis, who calmly sank the three pointer from just to the right of the top of the key for the winning hoop.
Coogan finished with a game-high 24 points and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds. Sophomore guard
Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, N.J.) had a fine game with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor, while Corbett added four steals.
Lewis had all 11 of her points in the second half, after missing much of the first with two fouls.
Caldwell continues its swing through the Nutmeg State at Post on Saturday, in a game that may go a long way to determine the No. 2 seed in the CACC North.
