Jah'Nel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) netted 23 points and junior forward
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) added 17, but a scoring drought in the fourth quarter cost women's basketball dearly in a 71-58 defeat at Post on Saturday at the Drubner Center.
The Cougars trailed by as many as 14 in the first half, before a late surge made it an eight-point deficit at halftime at 39-31. The Cougars continued their rally, eventually tying the game at 43 with 2:19 left in the third on a left-angle three by Lewis.Â
After Post (8-18 overall, 7-7 CACC) took a one-point lead into the fourth, the hosts held CU scoreless over the next 4:19, in the process building a 55-45 lead, extending to as many as 14 and winning going away to pull to within 1/2 game of the Cougars (13-11, 7-6 CACC) in the CACC North standings.
Sophomore guard
Brooke Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) had a team-high nine rebounds and added two steals for the Cougars, while graduate forward
Sophia DeMauro contributed eight points, five rebounds, a block and a steal.
The Cougars made just 10 of 22 free throws in the loss.
Caldwell will visit Jefferson in an additional non-league contest on Wednesday, then hosts Dominican on Saturday in a battle between the top two teams in the CACC North at the Newman Center.
