CALDWELL, N.J. -- Sophomore guard
Jah'Nel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) had a game-high 25 points and her classmate
Brooke Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) grabbed a game-best 13 rebounds, lifting Caldwell to a hard-fought women's basketball triumph over Goldey-Beacom (7-15, 4-6 CACC), 72-63, in a CACC contest at the Newman Center on Saturday.
The Cougars (11-9, 5-4 CACC) led by a narrow margin for most of the contest, extending a 62-58 lead with 4:52 to play in the fourth to 67-58 on layups by junior forward
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) and Corbett and a free throw by soph guard
Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, N.J.) for a nine-point edge wih 2:42 left. After a Lightning three, the Cougars scored five straight on a layup by Corbett and traditional three point play by Lewis to salt it away.
Lewis had 10 rebounds, matching her season high, for her second double-double of the year. Corbett had five assists and two steals, while Coogan (14 points) and soph forward
Nia Clemons (North Plainfield, N.J.; career-high 11 points) also scored in double figures for the Cougars.
Coogan now has 981 career points, 21st on the school's all-time list.
Caldwell next visits CACC North rival Felician on Wednesday in Rutherford, N.J., and returns home on Saturday, Feb. 8, vs. Jefferson.
