CALDWELL, N.J. Â -- Junior guard
Melvin Evans (Bronx, N.Y.) made a season-high four 3-pointers without missing from deep and finished with 18 points, leading men's basketball (13-7, 5-4 CACC) to an exciting 76-72 victory over the Goldey-Beacom Lightning (8-13, 5-5 CACC) at the Newman Center.
Junior forward
DeAngelo Horn (Castle Rock, Colo.) led CU with six assists, two steals and nine rebounds. He had 11 points too including a ferocious dunk.
Leading by two at 63-61 with 8:01 left, the Cougars extended to match their largest margin of the game with an 8-2 run which featured an Evans three and layup and capped by a triple by Horn. After GBC cut its deficit to 71-70 with under 2:00 to play, a layup by Evans put CU back up by three, and it was his acrobatic, driving layup with 0:31 left that gave the Cougars the final margin.Â
The game was very tight throughout. There were five lead changes and two ties.Â
The Cougars' shooting prowess from beyond the arc proved to be the difference in the win. They shot 44.8 % on 3-point attempts.
Senior forward
Derrick Bueno (Palisades Park, N.J.) scored 12 points, had four assists, one block and five rebounds.Â
Caldwell will travel to Rutherford and face the Felician Golden Falcons on Wednesday at 8:00 PM.
