CALDWELL, N.J. -- Junior guard
Brooke Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) posted a double-double with 11 points and an incredible 10 steals, missing a triple-double by a single rebound, and junior backcourt mate
Jah'Nel Lewis scored a game-high 22 points, leading Caldwell women's basketball to its fourth straight win, a non-league, 67-47 victory over Saint Michael's at the Newman Center on Sunday.
The Cougars opened an early 18-8 lead on the strength of six points from Lewis and five by senior guard
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) and capped by a traditional three-point conversion by sophomore wing
Sofia Maldonado (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) with 4:24 left in the first quarter. After SMC (5-5) closed to within six at 18-12, a 9-2 run capped by Corbett and Lewis shots re-established a 13-point advantage, and the Purple Knights would get no closer than 11 the rest of the afternoon.
Corbett showed why she was the 2024-25 CACC Defensive Player of the Year, relentlessly batting passes and tapping away opponent dribbles as CU (9-3) scored 23 points off turnovers in the near wire-to-wire win.
Junior forward
Harmony Earth-Wiley (Southfield, Mich.) contributed eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks to the Cougars' defensive effort, limiting the Northeast-10's second leading scoring team to 25 points below its season average.Â
Coogan finished with 13 points in 19 minutes, while junior guard
Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, N.J.) scored 12.
Jayla Tyler had 11 points 10 rebounds and six steals to lead the Purple Knights.
The Cougars' 9-3 start is the best after 12 game since they went 10-2 to start the 2017-18 season in which they finished 24-7 and advanced to the NCAA East Regional.
Caldwell takes the holiday off and next visits Holy Family on Jan. 3 in Philadelphia.
