Aguilar Nets 20, Women's Basketball Win Streak Snapped at Holy Family, 69-61

Corbett Matches Career-High with 14 points grabs team-best seven boards

PHILADELPHIA - Junior guard Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, N.J.) scored 18 of her 20 points in the first half as Caldwell fell to league unbeaten Holy Family 69-61 in a CACC women's basketball contest at Campus Center on Saturday.

The Cougars (9-4, 3-3 CACC) led, 23-22, after the first quarter on the strength of some hot shooting (10 of 15, 67%) from the floor. Aguilar netted 13 of her points in the period, connecting on all three of her three point attempts and five of six shots overall.

After HFU (9-3, 4-0) established a four-point edge early in the second Caldwell immediately retook the lead on a three-pointer by senior forward Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) and a driving layup by junior guard Brooke Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.). The teams traded the lead three more times in the period, before two buckets in the last two minutes put the host up, 38-35, at the break.

After CU closed to within 41-40 on a Corbett 15-foot jumper with 8:11 left in the third, the Tigers got some separation in the third, using a 6-0 run over the next three plus minutes for a seven-point edge. Limiting the Cougars to four points over the last eight minutes of the period, HFU led, 53-44, after three.

Trailing, 64-48, the Cougars made one more push, a Corbett jumper igniting a 9-1 run that got CU back within eight at 65-57 with 2:29 left, but would get no closer.

Corbett, who matched her career high with 14 points, also contributed  five assists, five rebounds and two steals, while junior guard Jah'Nel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) registered a game-high six assists.

The defeat snapped a four-game win streak for the Cougars, who next visit the University of Bridgeport for a CACC matchup on Tuesday.
