CALDWELL, N.J. -- Sophomore midfielder
Melissa Pires (Elizabeth, N.J.) delivered a penalty kick in the 35th minute and senior goalkeeper
Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas) made four saves as second-seeded Caldwell women's soccer topped No. 7 Bridgeport in the CACC Tournament quarterfinals at Caldwell Athletic Field on Saturday.
Following a Bridgeport hand ball in the box, Pires calmly drilled the penalty top shelf into the upper right corner for the 1-0 Cougars lead. It marked Pires's fourth goal of the season.
Gaminara made it stand up, recording four saves, three in the second half, including diving sprawls on a header by Luiza Macedo in the 70th minute and another on a left footed boot by Macedo two minute later. For Gaminara, it was her sixth clean sheet of the 2025 campaign and 25th of her career, extending her school record.
UB (4-9-5) kept coming at the Cougars, registering 10 shots, seven in the second half.
Caldwell (12-2-3) now takes on the winner of the #3 Chestnut Hill vs. #6 Goldey-Beacom game this evening.
