Two Gervais Goals, Gaminara Shutout Lead Women's Soccer to CACC Semifinal Blanking of Chestnut Hill, Return to Championship Game

Markers in 17th and 60th minute, Cardenas Capper in 75th, Six Gaminara Saves send Cougars to title game

CALDWELL, N.J. -- Senior forward Taina Gervais (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) scored in both halves, senior forward Rosio Cardenas (Forked River, N.J.) added a late tally and senior goalkeeper Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas) made six saves to record her second straight clean sheet, leading second-seeded Caldwell to a 3-0 whitewashing of No. 3 Chestnut Hill in the CACC Women's Soccer Tournament semifinals on Tuesday at Caldwell Athletic Field.

Gervais scored the first of her markers in the 17th minute, taking a feed from sophomore midfielder Melissa Pires (Elizabeth, N.J.) and drilling it in from close range. Soph defender Maria Frazier (Austin, Texas) was also credited with an assist for the initial pass to Pires.

The 1-0 score held until the 60th minute, when Gervais took a cross from junior midfielder Yuli Amador (Union, N.J.) and rifled a shot which went through the CHC goalkeepers hands and on into the goal to double the CU advantage.

The Cougars (13-2-4) weren't done yet, getting a late goal from Cardenas, who took a brilliant cross from the left side by freshman forward Brianna Valladares (North Plainfield, N.J.) and beating the keeper for her CACC-leading 12th goal and Valladares's first career point.

Gaminara faced a total of 12 shots as the Cougars outshot the Griffins (9-8-1), 17-12 in the contest. Haley Esposito also made six saves for CHC.

Caldwell's 13 victories are the most since 2013, when Caldwell won its first of three CACC titles. The program record for victories is 14, established a year earlier when CU went 14-5.

Caldwell moves on to the CACC Tournament Finals for the second straight season, where they will take on No. 4 Wilmington, a 2-1 upset winner over top-seeded Jefferson today, at noon on Saturday in Waterbury, Conn. Fans who can't make it to the match can watch live on the CACC Network.
