WATERBURY, Conn. -- Senior goalkeeper
Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas) made five saves but fourth-seeded Wilmington notched two second half goals to upend second seeded Caldwell 2-0, in the CACC Women's Soccer Championship Game at LaMoy Field on Saturday.
The Cougars' best scoring chance in the first half came in the 33rd minute when a shot from sophomore midfielder
Melissa Pires (Elizabeth, N.J.) sailed a bit high.
Then in the second, the Cougars had three good opportunities, a blast by graduate forward
Lexi Peto (Toms River, N.J.) sailing high right and two chases by senior forward
Taina Gervais (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) saved by Wilmington goalkeeper Arianna Myers, who made three saves in total.
Named to the All-Tournament Team from Caldwell were Gaminara, senior forward
Rosio Cardenas (Forked River, N.J.), Gervais and sophomore defender
Ayla Fraser (Passaic, N.J.)
Additionally, junior defender
Lea Masching (Salzburg, Austria) earned the CACC Women's Soccer Top XVII award for academic excellence, presented to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the Championship site.
Masching, a Sport Management major sporting a 3.98 GPA, started 19 of the Cougars' 20 games on defense, recording an assist and two shots. She played all 90 minutes in all but three of those contests, coming out for one minute at the end of one game and exiting late in two comfortable Caldwell victories, effectively playing every significant minute in all 20 matches.
The Cougars conclude the hugely successful season at 13-3-4.
