ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. — Graduate defender Jorge Gutierrez (Zaragoza, España) put in a rebound in the 87th minute, capping a three-goal rally and propelling Caldwell men's soccer to a 3-2 non-league victory over Molloy at John A. Darcy Field on Tuesday night.
Trailing, 2-0, less than 20 minutes into the game, the Cougars (3-6-1) halved the deficit on a goal by sophomore forward Hakon Rake (Lommedalen, Norway) in the 26th minute, a long pass from junior forward Ingebrigt Braenden (Trondheim, Norway).
The score remained 2-1 in favor of the hosts until the 72nd minute, when Rake put in the equalizer, from a nice through ball feed from freshman midfielder Roy Torjman (Tel Aviv, Israel).
The Cougars kept the pressure up on the Lions (1-4-4), finally breaking through when Braenden's shot was stopped by the MU keeper but Gutierrez was "Jorge on the spot," putting the rebound in for his first goal of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Justin Talbot made three saves in the win, as the Cougars outshot the Lions, 14-9, including 9-4 after the intermission.
Caldwell looks to take this momentum into a key road CACC contest Saturday at Jefferson.
