LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- Sophomore forward
Valerie Monge (North Plainfield, N.J.) and the senior forward duo of
Rosio Cardenas (Forked River, N.J.) and
Taina Gervais (Port au-Prince, Haiti) all scored goals in the convincing 3-0 win against the Georgian Court Lions (0-8, 0-4 CACC) at GCU Track and Field Complex.
Senior goalkeeper
Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas, Nev.) made five saves to earn her fifth shutout of the year. It was also her 24th career shutout.
Monge's goal in the 27th minute turned out to be the game-winner. She scored on an open net after the GCU goalkeeper fell to the turf.
In the 53rd minute, Cardenas gave CU some breathing room when she buried her team-leading sixth goal of the season. After the Lions keeper made the initial save Cardenas was in perfect position to capitalize on the rebound opportunity.
Gervais put an exclamation point on the victory when she scored her third goal this year. Sophomore forward
Ana Pinzon (Medellin, Colombia) set up Gervais with an excellent through ball pass.
Caldwell (6-1-1, 5-0 CACC) outshot GCU with a 22-10 advantage.
The Cougars return home for an out of conference tilt against the College of Staten Island Dolphins on Wednesday at 4 PM.
