CALDWELL, N.J. -- Senior forward
Lexi Peto (Toms River, N.J.) alertly put in a rebound shot in the 79th minute, propelling Caldwell women's soccer to a 2-1 non-league triumph over Queens at Caldwell Athletic Field on Saturday.
It was senior day, with five Cougars honorees. So it's only fitting that Peto's goal came off the carom of a hard shot by fellow senior forward
Rosio Cardenas (Forked River, N.J.), and that senior goalkeeper
Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas) made three saves to secure the victory.
Trailing, 1-0, following a goal by Ashley Kieblesz off a super free kick from Keeley Harden in the ninth minute, the Cougars got the equalizer 10 minutes later when freshman forward Julian Ballesteros (Union, N.J.) drove a shot which was saved by the QC keeper, but sophomore defender
Ayla Fraser (Passaic, N.J.) was there to redirect the rebound into the net for her first career marker.
Caldwell (9-2-3) outshot the Knights (2-7-6), 22-10, in the contest.Â
Prior to the game, Caldwell Head Coach
Sammy Adjei honored Peto, Cardenas, Gaminara and fellow seniors
Taina Gervais (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) and
Emma Bestider (Winfield Park, N.J.) in a ceremony.
The Cougars return to CACC play on Tuesday when they visit Post University in Waterbury, Conn.
