CALDWELL, N.J. Â -- Junior forward
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) scored a game-high 22 points and made 10 free throws for the second time this season, leading women's basketball (10-7, 4-2 CACC) to a 63-58 win over the Post University Eagles (4-14, 3-4 CACC) at the Newman Center.
It was the sixth time that Coogan dropped 20 or more points in a game. She also led the Cougars with two made threes.
Junior point guard
Marissa Sorvillo (Charlotte, N.C.) put up all seven of her points in the third quarter. Her scoring was one of CU's keys to victory.
Caldwell dominated the first half, and built a 17-point lead (37-20) at the 3:58 minute mark.
Sophomore point guard
Jah'Nel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) scored 14 points and added four steals. Sophomore guard
Brooke Corbett was again a strong presence, grabbing a game-high nine rebounds and adding five steals, five assists and two blocked shots.Â
Post put a scare into the Newman Center as they cut the deficit to three (61-58) on a late 3-pointer with :29 seconds left.
But Coogan would knock down two free throws to seal the win five seconds later.
CU will head to Philadelphia, PA and take on the Chestnut Hill College Griffins on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
