Neysa Aguilar's (Middlesex, N.J.) layup had given the Cougars the lead for the last time at 1:25 as Caldwell women's basketball rallied to top Georgian Court, 64-59, at GCU Wellness Center.
Lewis earned her first double-double of the season. Aguilar added 16 and junior forward
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) had 15 in the win.
Coogan's three pointer with 5:08 to play put the Cougars up, 50-49, and after a GCU bucket, a trey by Lewis gave CU the lead for good, 53-51. Aguilar added two free throws with 3:51 left, and assists by Coogan on a layup by graduate forward
Sophia DeMauro (New York) and Lewis's big three from the left corner helped the Cougars hold off the hosts.Â
Caldwell (8-6, 2-1 CACC) closed out their conference foe GCU (2-14, 2-2 CACC) in the last few minutes to get back in the win column after a tough OT loss to Molloy on Tuesday.
There were two ties and eight lead changes in the exciting back and forth contest.
The Cougars will return home on Tuesday to face the Bridgeport Purple Knights at 5:30 PM.
