Staten Island, N.Y. -- Senior forward
Melissa Martinez (Elizabeth, N.J.) and junior forward
Taina Gervais (Port-Au-Prince Haiti) led the Caldwell attack with two goals apiece as Caldwell Women's Soccer (1-0) defeated the College of Staten Island (0-1) 5-0 at the CSI Track & Field Complex.
Freshman midfielder
Melissa Pires (Elizabeth, N.J.) got the scoring started in just the third minute of the game which was only the beginning of the offensive outburst.
Some timely forced turnovers by Caldwell gave Martinez and Gervais great chances to capitalize and score. Caldwell's offense was relentless against the Dolphins defense. The Cougars had 33 shots and 18 of them on goal.
Senior forward
Alexa Peto (Toms River, N.J.), in her first game back for the Cougars after missing all of 2023 with an injury, picked up an assist, as did graduate midfielder
Ashley Georgevich (Saddle Brook, N.J.).
The Cougars' stifling defense held the CSI Dolphins in check, only allowing two shots on goal for the whole match. Junior
Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas) (two saves in 76 minutes) and junior
Reagan Cantner (Kingsville, Md.) combined on the shutout.
Caldwell's next match will be at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania on Saturday at 4 P.M.
