NEW YORK -- Freshman midfielder
Melissa Pires (Elizabeth, N.J.) scored in the 17th minute and junior forward
Taina Gervais (Port-Au-Prince Haiti) tallied less than a minute into the second half, propelling Caldwell Women's Soccer to a 2-0 victory over Goldey-Beacom in CACC action at Caldwell Athletic Field.
Pires stole a pass about 35 yards out, dribbled about 10 yards and lofted a shot over the outstretched keeper's arms for the Cougars' first goal.
Gervais took a long through ball down the right side and put a shot on net that the GBC keeper was able to stop momentarily, but the carom went off Gervais and just over the goal line for the 2-0 Cougars lead.
Junior goalkeeper
Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas) made five saves to record the shutout for the Cougars (5-2-1, 3-0 CACC).
Caldwell outshot Goldey-Beacom (1-7, 0-3 CACC), 26-8, in the contest.
