CALDWELL, N.J. -- Junior forward
Rosio Cardenas (Forked River, N.J.) got the Cougars on the board early, scoring for the Cougars in the ninth minute, as Caldwell Women's Soccer (3-2-1, 1-0-0) defeated Holy Family University (1-4-1, 1-1-0), 2-1 at Caldwell Athletics Field.
Junior forward
Taina Gervais (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) started the play by drilling a low shot that the HFU keeper was able to stop, but Cardenas was at the ready, redirecting the carom into the goal for the 1-0 lead the Cougars would not relinquish.
Senior forward
Kayla Willis (Union, N.J.) added a late insurance goal in the 80th minute that was assisted by freshman forward Ana Pinzon (Medellin, Colombia).
Caldwell outshot Holy Family 14-9 and had four more shots on goal (10-6). The CU defense, led by junior goalkeeper
Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas) (five saves in 90 minutes) held off Holy Family's last minute comeback attempt.
Caldwell will travel to face CACC foe Felician University in Rutherford, N.J. on Wednesday at 1 PM.
