CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. -- Junior wide receiver
Arjun Petgrave (Cranford, N.J.) had a team-best four receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown as Caldwell sprint football opened the 2024 season and the
Louie Matsakis era with a 28-6 defeat at Chestnut Hill in Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL South) action at A.A. Garthwaite Stadium.
Petgrave nabbed a 58 yard touchdown reception from senior QB
Anthony Haines (Nutley, N.J.) with 4:41 left in the second quarter, grabbing the fourth-down pass and scampering down the left sideline to pull CU within 21-6. The Cougars had one more possession before the half but the drive ended in Griffins territory as time expired in the period.
Caldwell used all three of its quarterbacks in the contest, with freshman
Josh Smith (Parsippany, N.J.) starting the game and freshman
Jamiel Lawrence (Jersey City, N.J.) getting fourth-quarter snaps.
Defensively, Caldwell was led by senior DBs
Amajuwan Murray (Rahway, N.J.) and
Gennaro Longobardi (Nutley, N.J.), who both grabbed interceptions and freshman DB
Kyle Lewis (Neptune, N.J.), who matched Murray's team-best eight tackles.Â
The Cougars (0-1, 0-1 CSFL South) have a bye week, then take on CSFL newcomer Molloy on Long Island on Oct. 4.
