BENSALEM, Pa. -- Junior RF Jessica Klein (Trevose, Pa.) had three hits and senior righthander Allison Winters (Blairstown, N.J.) scattered six hits and struck out four in a complete game effort in the circle, as Caldwell softball took the opener of a twinbill at Holy Family, 4-2 at Bensalem H.S. The hosts came back to take the nightcap, 4-2.
The Cougars (16-14, 4-6 CACC) got off to a fast start in the opener, scoring runs on RBI hits by graduate 3B Riley Riendeau (Lincoln, R.I.) and Klein for a 2-0 lead. Single runs in the fourth through sixth on a sacrifice fly by Winters and run-scoring singles by junior 1B Brooke Martin (Oakland, Maine) and freshman catcher Taylor Quinn (Colonie, N.Y.) build a 5-1 lead, and Winters made it stand up for her fifth win of the season.
Junior 2B Grace Vondracek (Odessa, N.Y.), Riendeau and Martin had two hits each for the Cougars.
In game two, hits by Vondracek, Quinn, Riendeau and Klein were not enough as the Tigers (8-25, 5-7) gained the split.
The Cougars next visit Dominican on Wednesday in Orangeburg, N.Y. for a CACC doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.
