Liam Lombardi (Stony Point, N.Y.) had two hits and three RBI apiece as Caldwell baseball fell to CACC rival Dominican, 11-9 at Clover Stadium on Tuesday.
The Cougars (8-23, 7-14 CACC) took a 5-3 lead with three in the fourth, keyed by a two-run double by Saunders followed by an RBI single up the middle by Young Jr. After Dominican (15-28, 9-12) went ahead, 9-5, Caldwell battled back again with three in the sixth, on an RBI double by Saunders and two-run home run by Lombardi.
Caldwell and Dominican battle in a doubleheader on Friday, with the third and final CACC North playoff spot still in the balance. Game one at Kiwanis Oval begins at 1 p.m.
