CALDWELL, N.J. -- Freshman catcher-outfielder
Taylor Quinn (Colonie, N.Y.) had a combined five hits in the doubleheader and junior 1B-C
Brooke Martin (Oakland, Maine) launched her first home run of the season, as the Cougars dropped a slugfest CACC doubleheader to Felician, 16-12 and 13-10 on Tuesday at Caldwell Athletic Field.
Senior
Allison Winters (Blairstown, N.J.) had four hits and junior shortstop
Ashleigh Tavaska (Jackson, N.J.) had four RBI in the twinbill.
In the opener, the Cougars took a 3-0 first inning lead on RBI by Tavaska, Quinn and Martin, then after Felician (17-12, 11-5 CACC) went ahead, 5-3, tied it in the third on an error followed by an RBI by freshman CF
Brooke Freschi (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.).
Felician scored 10 straight runs, but the Cougars (20-18, 8-10) battled back with three i the fifth and three in the seventh but came up one baserunner short of bringing the tying run to the plate in their last at bat.
In the nightcap, CU used a nine-run second inning to take a 10-4 lead, highlighted by a two-run single by Quinn, two-RBI two-bagger by Winters and two-run home run by Martin. But that's the last the Cougars would score, as Felician closed with nine unanswered runs to win.
The Cougars next host Jefferson on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Caldwell Athletic Field.
